Future.

A utopia
a hundred years from now:

converging
on a single society,
with a single vision,
and the same destiny;

a homogenised
agglomeration
of blended faces:

featureless,
but powerful.

All cultural whims
are left behind:
goodbye, ignorance;
goodbye, bigotry.

No more religion,
no more race,
no more ‘we’ and ‘them’;
just ‘you’ and ‘I’.

A singularity is reached:
civilised beyond measure;
unknowable
as ice cubes made out of
lemon sugar-water.

Smiles,
few concerns;
automated
and regulated
automatically
and efficiently.

Do what you will,
say what you will:
look back through the years with pity
and look forwards with envy
at the still-present disgrace
of human inequities
of mind,
conscience,
and practice.

This is the future.
Does it move you
to smile?
(Or be sick?)

What do you think?
Why don’t you
fucking
feel how it feels in your mouth
and tell me about it
when sense
almost crystallises.
